when people think of hawaii, they usually think of the mountains and the ocean and just everything u can think about being in paradise. here in waikiki, its a combo of the city and island life. being a city girl, this is nothing compared to new york, but most locals and other islanders consider waikiki crazy-ville. n i guess it sometimes is with all the loud oli-oli trollys that come around with the screaming tourists, the street performers, the regular prositutes that somehow can't be controlled, occasional surf competitions, the mix of tourists from all around the globe who speak all different languages, and random city parades or festivals.. waikiki is a great stop by when vacationing in paradise, just to meet all different people from all around the world and of course to eat and shop. its the best mix of city and paradise rolled into one. so if u have never been to waikiki, put it on ur 'one of the placest i must go before i die' list =)

i guess im torn. i always think i have no place to call home. but come to think of it i have homes on different parts of the world heheh. can't always think of the glass half empty when times are rough. when u see it from a different perspective we're really kinda blessed.
soOoo.. after a bittersweet goodbye, 5 1/2 hr trip to vegas, then another 5 1/2 to hawaii i finally got here like an early bird.
found my way to a my dorm n settled in by myself.. got reinterviewed n now i'll be working at the first official quiksilver store right at the heart of international market place in waikiki.
hawaii itself is soo picturesque like everyone says or sees in pictures. but its not only that, the people that live here are by far some of the friendliest. i dont think i could have ever gotten the balls to literally travel halfway around the world alone had i felt like i would be lonely.
its funny because during my interview, i was asked, how long i'd intend to work at the store. i explained that i planned to work my 2 year stay while im in school on the island. and when asked if i'd stay longer i replied if i get attached i guess thats an option too. and he told me.. its hard not to be homesick when you dont know anyone here. and u wont ever forget where u came from. but while ur here embrace your stay. its not about what the place changes in you but what you put into the environment. there's a reason why you're here. you dont have to worry about adapting. you are you and you're not alone here.
its overwhelming, meeting new people, having a new job, new school. everything is close to my home which is good. and there is no pressure from anyone here for me to be someone i am not. its true, life is so simple. people are always in a good mood, always laughing and it's pretty contagious.
i'm still really homesick.. and most of all i'm really scared of being alone. but everyone only experiences things once. this is a great opportunity. n hopefully, i'll come home an incredibly smart and awesome person.
a little family vacation to entertain my two little neices became a very educational and interesting time for all of us @ none other than the BRONX ZOO! i never realized just how much the human race has changed the environment and affected the lives of wildlife all around the world. because of human expansion we've taken up the homes of thousands of different species and in many ways changed the natural course of human nature. wildlife reserves such as these help turn around the effects that society has caused to nature and the wildlife by researching into more eco-friendly lifestyles and by saving those species who are endangered, but first and foremost educate the ignorant like me as to who's just homes we're invading..
unfortunately we only got to visit 1/4 of the zoo.. more pics to come next time i go to visit.
visit the local wildlife reserve near you =)
little apple dolls.. these collectible dolls creep the hell out of everyone i show them to. i guess it takes a little bit more than just a quick glance to understand the concept of these dolls. and once understood, you might actually see them as somewhat beautiful. as for me i think theyre captivating =)
when i got my first doll there were only 3 different ones: sine, circe, and umbrae. now there are a bunch! heres a quick recap to the foundation of these dolls...
little apple dolls were created by the imagination of Ufuoma Urie. Each doll comes with an apple pin-cushion, hence the name, little APPLE dolls duhhr hehe! newai, througout history apples have often reporesented temptation. in turn, the little apple developed a persona that could show emotion but itself acts as a protector of souls and guardian to each of the dolls and very simply represents each of the dolls' sorrow. Each doll also comes with a story book which explains in a small tale how she died and what sorrow she represents. These dolls are made to represent the area between life and death. i guess the lostyou can say. their simple details, although eerie show their sadness and beauty.
how very emo huh? well when understood clearly i guess it can be understood that once cannot fully appreciate life unless there were death...
